Reverse description The central field depicts a finely detailed African elephant in high relief, shown in a three-quarter frontal view facing left, with its trunk raised upward. Two prominent curved tusks extend from the lower jaw, and the textured skin of the animal is rendered with great naturalistic detail. A leafy acacia tree canopy occupies the upper right background, while two smaller acacia trees in the African savanna style are depicted in the lower foreground. The legend AFRICAN WILDLIFE arcs along the upper border and ELEPHANT along the lower left, with the silver fineness specification 2 oz Ag 999 appearing along the lower right, all separated by raised dots.

Additional information

Somalia's elephant bullion series, launched in the early 2000s, was not produced by the Somali government in any functional sense — the country had no central bank capable of authorizing or distributing coinage. These pieces were struck under licensing arrangements by private minting operations, primarily in Germany, exploiting the nominal authority of the transitional Somali administration for marketing purposes. The design updates annually, a deliberate strategy borrowed from the African Wildlife series to drive collector demand.
