正面描述 Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Luís I of Portugal, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and short sideburns. The engraver's initials F.A.C. appear on the truncation of the bust. The circular legend reads LUDOVICUS·I·PORTUG: ET·ALGARB: REX, identifying the monarch as King of Portugal and the Algarves. The date appears in the lower exergual area below the bust, flanked by two raised dots. A beaded border frames the entire obverse design.

附加信息

Luiz I's 2000 Reis was struck across two decades with no single dramatic event driving its issue — it was workhorse coinage for a kingdom increasingly dependent on Brazilian gold that had long since stopped flowing. Portugal's monetary position through the 1870s and 1880s was fragile enough that the Cortes debated abandoning the real-denominated system entirely in favor of full metrication, a reform that would not arrive until the escudo replaced the real in 1911.

The Gomes reference distinguishes multiple die marriages across the emission, with portrait punch variations noted between the earlier and later strikes of the series.
