Argentina's 2,000 peso note was introduced in late 2023 as inflation rendered lower denominations functionally useless — by the time it entered circulation, the official exchange rate had the note worth roughly five US dollars. Casa de Moneda de Argentina, the state printer, produced it domestically, which limits the security feature suite considerably compared to notes in the same series printed abroad. The watermark is the primary anti-counterfeiting measure, a thin specification for a note of this face value.

Argentina's cumulative inflation exceeded 140% in 2023 alone, making this the fourth new high-denomination note introduced within a decade.
