| Obverse description | The national arms of the Lao People's Democratic Republic are centrally positioned in the field, depicting the gilded Pha That Luang stupa enclosed within a wreath of rice stalks, a cogwheel at the base, and a ribbon bearing an inscription in Lao script. The circular legend 'THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC' arcs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, while the denomination '2000 KIP' occupies the lower exergue. A continuous beaded border frames the entire design at the rim. |

| Reverse description | A polished jade-coloured inlaid disc dominates the centre of the reverse, bearing gilded Chinese characters arranged in an arc reading 'Year of the Snake' around a central motif of a gilded coiled cobra rearing upright. Two finely rendered silver serpents entwine about a laurel wreath encircling the jade disc, their bodies meeting at the apex and base of the composition. The gilded Chinese characters '巳蛇' appear in the upper field above the wreath, and the Latin legend 'THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE' is inscribed along the lower arc of the jade ring. The date '2013' is presented at the base within a cartouche formed by the crossing tails of the flanking serpents. |
