| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features an exceptionally detailed high-relief depiction of Saint Peter crucified upside down on a wooden cross, referencing his martyrdom as recorded in early Christian tradition. The figure of Saint Peter is rendered with remarkable anatomical precision, his inverted body suspended upon a textured wooden cross whose grain is faithfully reproduced in the strike. Baroque scrollwork, shell motifs, and foliate ornaments frame the lower portion of the composition in a decorative cartouche. The inscription ST. PETER appears in raised block lettering within the lower cartouche, flanked by symmetrical shell and scroll devices. The antique finish treatment accentuates the dramatic sculptural relief of the martyr's figure and the surrounding decorative elements. |
