The Franc CFA — pegged to the French franc and later the euro at a fixed rate — has been a persistent flashpoint in African monetary politics. Cameroon issues collector coins denominated in CFA francs partly as a sovereignty signal in that ongoing argument, commissioning elaborate silver pieces that will never circulate and bear no relation to the workhorse 500-franc coins actually used in Yaoundé markets.
Hera is one of several Greek deity issues produced by the same European minting contractors who supply most of francophone Africa's numismatic program.
