To the right, Napoleon Bonaparte is depicted on rearing horseback, caped and wearing his iconic bicorne hat, in a manner evoking Jacques-Louis David's celebrated portrait. The Arc de Triomphe rises prominently in the centre background, flanked by scenes of Napoleonic military campaigns including infantry formations and Egyptian pyramids at left.
