| Obverse description | The obverse features the Hungarian coat of arms at centre, depicting the traditional quartered shield with horizontal barry stripes on the dexter side and the patriarchal double cross on the sinister side, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The outer legend reads MAGYARORSZÁG along the upper arc, with the date 2016, the Budapest mint mark BP., and the denomination 2000 FORINT distributed around the lower arc. The design is rendered in a clean, modern relief style against a flat field. |

This piece reproduces the gold florin issued under Sigismund of Luxembourg, who ruled Hungary from 1387 until his death in 1437 — one of the longest reigns in medieval Hungarian history and a period during which the florin became a dominant trade currency across Central Europe. The original coins were struck to the Florentine weight standard, a deliberate policy to maximize their acceptance in international commerce. Hungary's abundant gold deposits from Transylvanian mines made such ambition credible.
