| 背面描述 | A relief map of Europe occupies the right portion of the field, commemorating the introduction of the Euro. At the centre, an authentic Spanish 5 Pesetas circulation coin is inset and secured within a recessed mount, displaying the reverse design of that coin. The upper legend reads O ANO DO EURO with the date 1 Janeiro 1999 immediately below. The denomination 2000 DOBRAS / 1 EURO is inscribed in two lines toward the lower left of the field. |

São Tomé e Príncipe's late-1990s commemorative program leaned heavily on Iberian historical themes, a nod to five centuries of Portuguese colonial administration that ended only in 1975. This particular issue honors the Spanish 5 Pesetas — the *duro* — a coin that anchored everyday commerce in Spain from the mid-nineteenth century until peseta coinage was retired ahead of euro adoption in 2002.
The program had no pretense of circulation; these were frankly collector pieces sold into the European numismatic market.
