2000 Córdobas Mexico '86

Nicaragua issued this coin during one of the most economically catastrophic periods in the country's history — by 1988, the Córdoba had lost so much value to hyperinflation that the government would introduce the New Córdoba the following year at a conversion rate of 1,000 to one. A silver commemorative denominated at 2,000 Córdobas was, in practical terms, worth less in face value than the metal it contained.

The Mexico '86 series was produced well after the tournament concluded, a two-year lag that was common among smaller issuing nations contracting commemorative programs through third-party minting houses.
