| Obverse description | Against a mirror-like proof field, a full-length figure of a violinist is depicted in three-quarter view, playing the instrument with bow in hand, rendered in high relief. To the upper left, the Polish state eagle is shown. A stylized musical staff with notes spans the background, evoking a musical composition. The italic inscription 'dolce ma sotto voce' appears in the left field, referencing a musical direction. The legend 'RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA' curves along the lower rim, with the denomination '200 ZŁ' in the lower center and the date '2001' to the right. |

Wieniawski died in Moscow in 1880 at 44, his health destroyed by years of relentless touring despite a heart condition his doctors had warned would kill him — and it did. The National Bank of Poland has issued numerous gold commemoratives in this format honoring Polish composers and performers, but Wieniawski's international stature arguably outpaced his domestic recognition during his lifetime; he spent far more of his career in Brussels, St. Petersburg, and on American concert tours with Anton Rubinstein than in Poland itself.
