Prominent temple ensembles, the facade of the theatre, a classical rotunda, and an obelisk occupy the middle ground, while at centre the coat of arms of Yaroslavl is flanked by a scene depicting the daily life of the city's ancient inhabitants. In the foreground, a tall-masted sailing vessel sails upon the river, evoking the city's mercantile heritage.
