The circular legend reads MARIA·ET·PETRUS·III·D·G·PORT·REGES·ET·BRAS·D, referencing the joint reign of Maria I and Pedro III as monarchs of Portugal and Brazil. The crowned 'G.P.' countermark of King Luis I, applied in 1887, is stamped prominently on the obverse field, validating the coin for circulation in the Azores at the revalued denomination of 200 Réis. The coin's milled border frames the entire design. |

| Popis rubu | The reverse of the host coin features a large armillary sphere at centre, rendered in fine detail with meridian bands and a diagonal ecliptic crossing the globe, flanked on either side by a crowned cross of the Order of Christ. The surrounding legend reads SUBQ·SIGN·NATA·STAB·, a well-known Portuguese colonial motto referencing the Southern Cross and imperial stability. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border with a milled edge. This reverse is characteristic of the Brazilian colonial 160 Réis coinage struck under Maria I and Pedro III, and retains clear detail despite the subsequent countermarking applied to the obverse. |
