Guatemala's 200 Quetzal note occupies a denomination that remained largely absent from everyday commerce — the purchasing power made it practical mainly for large transactions and banking use, which in turn kept street-level wear unusually low. The 200 Quetzal value was introduced as Guatemala's economy expanded and smaller high-denomination notes became inadequate, though the country's persistent income inequality meant many citizens handled the note rarely, if at all.
Giesecke & Devrient have held the Banco de Guatemala printing contract across multiple series, bringing Munich-standard security production to a relatively modest Central American print run. The security thread specification for this issue is unremarkable by 2009 standards.
