| Obverse description | The right half of the obverse carries an intaglio-printed vignette with portrait busts of three Guatemalan composers — Germán Alcántara, Mariano Valverde, and Sebastián Hurtado — set against a multicolour guilloche underprint with red and teal tones. The denomination Q200 and the legend DOSCIENTOS QUETZALES appear in bold intaglio to the left of the portraits, accompanied by two signature lines for the Presidente and Gerente General of the Banco de Guatemala. Guatemala's 200 Quetzal note occupies a denomination that remained largely absent from everyday commerce — the purchasing power made it practical mainly for large transactions and banking use, which in turn kept street-level wear unusually low. The 200 Quetzal value was introduced as Guatemala's economy expanded and smaller high-denomination notes became inadequate, though the country's persistent income inequality meant many citizens handled the note rarely, if at all.
Giesecke & Devrient have held the Banco de Guatemala printing contract across multiple series, bringing Munich-standard security production to a relatively modest Central American print run. The security thread specification for this issue is unremarkable by 2009 standards.
