Chile's 200-peso coin was introduced in 1994 as part of a broader rationalization of the country's coinage following the economic stabilization programs of the late Pinochet and early Aylwin governments. By 2010, the aluminum-bronze alloy composition had already seen one revision, with earlier bimetallic proposals shelved on cost grounds. The Casa de Moneda in Santiago remains one of the oldest operating mints in the Americas, tracing continuous production to 1743.
