| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of King Carl XVI Gustaf rendered in high relief, with naturalistically detailed wavy hair, occupying the central field. The effigy is modelled in a contemporary artistic style by engraver Marita Norin, whose initials 'MN' appear incuse beneath the truncation. A circular Latin legend in raised letters runs along the full periphery, reading 'CARL XVI GUSTAF SVERIGES KONUNG FOR SVERIGE I TIDEN', separated by raised dot stops. |

This coin marks Sweden's 1979 amendment to the Act of Succession, which made the crown gender-neutral — a genuine constitutional shift that placed Carl Gustaf's infant daughter Victoria ahead of her younger brother Carl Philip in the line of succession. Sweden became the first European monarchy to adopt absolute primogeniture, and the Riksbank issued this commemorative within a year of the law taking effect.
