Issued to mark the 600th anniversary of the Kalmar Union, the political arrangement formed in 1397 under which Denmark, Norway, and Sweden were united under a single crown — initially that of Erik of Pomerania. The union lasted, fitfully, until Gustav Vasa's break from Denmark in 1523, a dissolution that ultimately gave Sweden its modern national identity.
Myntverket struck this as a commemorative circulation issue, one of several large-format silver kronor produced under Carl XVI Gustaf during the 1990s for the collector market.
