| Opis awersu | Printed in brown on paper, the face is enclosed within an elaborate border of guilloche ornaments and stylized leaf motifs, with a large central rose window forming the principal decorative element. Four oval vignettes occupy the corners, each illustrating a different facet of Suriname's local economy, while the numeral '200' appears four times within circular rosettes at the cardinal points. Two manuscript signatures in black ink, representing the Director and the Director-President (Voorzitter) of De Surinaamsche Bank, appear at the base; examples encountered in collections are diagonally perforated 'WAARDELOOS' twice, indicating demonetization. |

De Surinaamsche Bank, founded in 1865, held an exclusive note-issuing privilege in Dutch Guiana throughout this period — a concession renewed periodically by the colonial administration in The Hague rather than by any local legislative body. The 200 Gulden was a high denomination for a colony whose agricultural economy ran largely on smaller denominations; notes at this level circulated primarily between merchants, plantation owners, and the bank itself rather than through everyday trade.
Enschedé's Haarlem presses supplied virtually all Dutch colonial paper money of this period, and their intaglio work on the Suriname series is consistent with that house's long-standing production standards for the Dutch overseas territories.
