| Obverse description | Central field displays the ornate coat of arms of Portugal set within an elaborate cartouche surmounted by a royal crown. The shield features the traditional Portuguese quinas and castle bordure. Flanking the cartouche are decorative acanthus scrollwork supporters, with a draped chain collar encircling the lower portion of the arms, terminating in a pendant Order of Christ cross at the base. The legend SELVAGENS arcs across the upper field. |

| Additional information |
The Selvagens — a tiny Portuguese archipelago roughly midway between Madeira and the Canary Islands — have been the subject of a prolonged territorial dispute with Spain, whose government has periodically argued they fall within the natural extension of the Canary platform. Portugal has maintained continuous administration and garrisoned a small nature reserve station there since the 1970s. Issues commemorating the group are rare; most collectors encounter the Selvagens only as a footnote in Madeiran administrative history.
