| 表面の説明 | Central field depicts a map of South America with the demarcation line of the Treaty of Tordesillas, flanked by the coat of arms of Spain to the west and the coat of arms of Portugal to the east. A 16th-century square-rigged Portuguese carrack appears to the right of the map. The legend 'DIVISAO DO MUNDO' and the treaty year '1494' appear below the central design. The entire composition is enclosed within a border styled as a cartographic scale. The denomination, issuer legend 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA', date, mint mark 'INCM', and engraver's signature 'A.MARINHO' appear around the periphery. |

The "Partilha do Mundo" — Division of the World — commemorates the Treaty of Tordesillas of 1494, by which Spain and Portugal negotiated a line of demarcation splitting the undiscovered world between them along a meridian 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde Islands. The treaty was brokered under papal arbitration and remains one of the most audacious territorial agreements in diplomatic history, dividing continents neither party had yet seen.
Gomes catalogs this as R112.04, distinguishing it within a multi-metal proof series issued across gold, silver, and base metal. The .917 fineness matches the standard applied throughout Portugal's commemorative gold program of the 1990s.
