Obverse description At right, the crowned coat of arms of Portugal is prominently displayed alongside the denomination. At left, a detailed depiction of the sailing vessel Victoria, the sole ship to complete the first circumnavigation of the globe, shown under full sail. The design commemorates the historic voyage begun by Ferdinand Magellan and concluded under the command of Juan Sebastián Elcano. The engraver's signature S. MACHADO appears in the field, along with the mint mark INCM and the year 2000.
