Behind and to the right, a stylised outline map of the California coastline fills the upper field against a deeply mirrored background. The inscriptions CALIFÓRNIA / 1542 1992 appear in the central field to the right of the figure, commemorating the 450th anniversary of Cabrillo's discovery of California, with JOÃO RODRIGUES CABRILHO in three lines below. The engraver's signature ISABEL C.-F. BRANCO is incused along the lower left rim, and the mint mark INCM appears at lower right. |
