Behind and to the right, a stylised outline map of the California coastline fills the upper field against a deeply mirrored background. The inscriptions CALIFÓRNIA / 1542 1992 appear in the central field to the right of the figure, commemorating the 450th anniversary of Cabrillo's discovery of California, with JOÃO RODRIGUES CABRILHO in three lines below.
