The SS Beaver holds a specific place in Pacific Northwest history as the first steam-powered vessel to operate on the west coast of North America, arriving in 1836 and working Hudson's Bay Company trade routes for over five decades. She ran aground near the entrance to Burrard Inlet in 1888 and spent four years breaking apart on the rocks before finally sinking — salvagers stripped her so thoroughly that fragments of her hull became collectible relics within years of her wrecking.
The 22-karat alloy used here is the traditional crown gold standard, unchanged from Tudor-era English coinage.
