| Reverse description | The reverse presents architectural and decorative motifs drawn from two historic Islamic monuments: the elaborately painted façade elements of the Šarena Džamija (Alaca Cami) in Tetovo occupy the principal vignette, while marble tiles with intricate floral inlay work from the Isak Džamija in Bitola form the secondary decorative field. The denomination '200' is repeated at both lateral margins within the guilloche border. |

Macedonia's banknote series has always been printed abroad — the country has never operated its own security press — and Thomas De La Rue has held the contract for much of that history. This 2016 issue is a late-run replacement print of a design that has circulated with only minor modifications since the mid-1990s, a notably long run for a denomination in active everyday use.
Lasko Djurovski designed the original series following Macedonian independence in 1991, an unusual circumstance in which a single designer shaped the visual identity of an entirely new currency from scratch.
