| Aanvullende informatie |
The Flor de la Mar (Flower of the Sea) was a Portuguese carrack that sank in the Strait of Malacca in November 1511 while carrying what contemporary accounts described as the largest treasure ever loaded onto a single ship — looted from the Sultan of Malacca's palace by Afonso de Albuquerque. The wreck has never been located, and its rumored contents have driven salvage expeditions for centuries.
The Gambia's appearance as issuer here is purely commercial — the country has no historical connection to the vessel whatsoever, and this coin was produced for the collector bullion market rather than domestic circulation.
