Reverse description A dynamic high-relief scene depicting a Polish Winged Hussar cavalryman charging at full gallop on horseback, lance leveled, with characteristic hussar wings visible behind the rider. In the background, an incuse schematic plan of a fortification is rendered in the field. Additional information

Hodów was the site of a June 1694 cavalry engagement in which roughly 400 Polish hussars and pancerni held off an Ottoman and Tatar force estimated at several thousand — a ratio so lopsided that the battle entered Polish military historiography as a near-mythological example of the winged hussars' final operational peak. By the time this coin was issued, the 2018 series commemorating historic Polish military victories had already covered better-known engagements; Hodów was a deliberate choice to rescue a genuinely obscure action from specialist literature into broader public recognition.
