Obverse description The national coat of arms of Kazakhstan occupies the central field, depicting a shanyrak (the upper dome of a traditional yurt) with radiating uyk (support rods) above a landscape, flanked by mythical winged horses (tulepar) and framed by wheat sheaves. A five-pointed star appears at the apex of the design. The circular legend reads '• ҚАЗАҚСТАН • РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ •' (Republic of Kazakhstan) in Cyrillic script, running along the periphery of the coin.

Additional information

Kazakhstan declared independence in December 1991, but the new nation continued using Soviet rubles until November 1993, when it was effectively forced out of the ruble zone after Russia tightened control over ruble supply to former Soviet republics. The entire first coin series — including this piece — was introduced over a single weekend, with tyin-denominated coins entering circulation alongside the new tenge on November 15, 1993.

The KM#4a reference suggests a documented variety exists within this type, likely a die or alloy revision made during the compressed production timeline.
