Reverse description The reverse presents a vivid polychrome enamel scene inspired by Pushkin's fairy tale 'The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish.' An elderly bearded fisherman, clad in a traditional red robe, stands on a rocky shore with his hand outstretched toward a golden fish emerging from stylized blue waves, rendered in a bold folk-art palette. Above the scene, a radiating sun and a flowering lotus plant on a green stalk appear against a black background. The curved Cyrillic legend СКАЗКА О РЫБАКЕ И РЫБКЕ arcs along the upper rim of the coin. The entire colored scene is enclosed within the oval format and framed by a reeded border.

Additional information

Part of Belarus's long-running folklore and fairy tale series, this piece draws on Pushkin's 1833 verse tale "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish," itself adapted from a story collected by the Brothers Grimm. The rectangular format — unusual enough in silver issues of this weight class — was a deliberate choice by the National Bank to accommodate narrative scene work across a wider striking surface. Belarus issued numerous shaped and oversized pieces throughout the 2000s as the collector market for novelty formats expanded aggressively in Eastern Europe.
