Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts a finely detailed, icon-style composition of the Theotokos of Barkalabava in high relief against a richly gilded foliate background. The Virgin Mary is shown in three-quarter view, draped in a blue-silver mantle, her right hand raised in a gesture of intercession, while she supports the Christ Child on her left arm. The Christ Child is rendered in frontal pose, offering a blessing. Abbreviated Cyrillic inscriptions identifying the figures appear in the upper corners in the traditional iconographic manner, and the inscription 'БАРКАЛАБАЎСКАЯ' is rendered in a cartouche at the lower edge, distinguishing this venerated Belarusian icon. The gold-plated background contrasts with the matte silver of the figures, enhancing the devotional, icon-like character of the design.

Aanvullende informatie

The Barkalabava Icon holds a specific place in Belarusian Orthodox tradition: it is housed at the Barkalabava Convent in the Bykhaw district of Mogilev Oblast, where it has reportedly been venerated since the early 17th century. Belarus has issued a sustained series of religious icon coins, largely aimed at the domestic devotional market and international collector trade, with the National Bank treating the Orthodox calendar and iconographic canon as a recurring mint program throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

The selective gold plating on these issues is applied over the .925 silver field — a technique the Belarusian mint used to differentiate sacred image areas from background, following conventions of actual icon gilding.
