João V ruled Portugal for 43 years, and Angola's copper coinage of this period was produced specifically for colonial circulation in Portuguese West Africa — not as an afterthought, but as a deliberate monetary policy to supply a territory where Portuguese metropolitan coinage was chronically undersupplied. The Lisbon mint struck these under royal warrant, with the colonial destination marked from the outset rather than diverted from domestic supply.
