| Beschrijving voorzijde | The right half of the note is dominated by an intaglio portrait of Doctor Mariano Gálvez, hero of Central American independence, set against a stepped Mayan pyramid vignette rendered in blue-grey guilloche. To the left, a full-colour quetzal bird in flight extends its long tail feathers across the centre, flanked by a small Guatemalan national flag at lower left and a polychrome Maya deity figurine below the bird. The dark upper banner bears the bank title and country inscription in white letterpress, with denomination numerals printed in large intaglio figures at centre-left and an approval date of 31 January 2018 at lower centre. |

| Opmerkingen |
The Banco de Guatemala has issued notes under a broadly stable design framework since the mid-1990s, with incremental security upgrades rather than wholesale redesigns. This series, printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire in Rennes, reflects that continuity — the shift to Oberthur came after earlier series had been handled by other European security printers, and the French firm's production quality is consistent throughout the decade-long date range.
The quetzal's persistent stability against the dollar during much of the 2010s reduced inflationary pressure on the denomination ladder, meaning 20-quetzal notes from this period circulated heavily and worn examples are far more common than choice ones.
