Obverse description The right half of the note is dominated by an intaglio portrait of Doctor Mariano Gálvez, hero of Central American independence, set against a stepped Mayan pyramid vignette rendered in blue-grey guilloche. To the left, a full-colour quetzal bird in flight extends its long tail feathers across the centre, flanked by a small Guatemalan national flag at lower left and a polychrome Maya deity figurine below the bird. The dark upper banner bears the bank title and country inscription in white letterpress, with denomination numerals printed in large intaglio figures at centre-left and an approval date of 31 January 2018 at lower centre.

Reverse description The central vignette, engraved in fine intaglio, portrays the signing of the Act of Independence of Central America, showing a gathering of delegates in a colonial hall with barred windows and a tall clock in the background. This scene is enclosed within a hexagonal frame bordered by ornate guilloche work and Pre-Columbian decorative motifs. At left and right, Maya jade figurine vignettes in red serve as secondary decorative elements, with the Guatemalan flag repeated at upper right and denomination numerals in red at lower right.
