Obverse description The obverse is printed in red-brown tones and bears, to the left of centre, an oval intaglio vignette of Lady Hazel Lavery, shown in three-quarter view draped in a shawl with a harp partially visible behind her, set against a landscape background. The bilingual bank title appears across the top within a Celtic knotwork border, with denomination numerals "20" at each corner and vertical bilingual inscriptions along the side margins. Two manuscript facsimile signatures — those of the Governor and the Secretary of the Department of Finance — are printed centrally, with a £20 guilloché roundel to the right, and the serial number and date appear twice on the face.
