Breslau's municipal tramway administration issued these small-denomination notes during the acute coin shortage that gripped German cities in 1920 — a notgeld problem that hit transit operators particularly hard, since exact-fare systems depended entirely on small change that had effectively vanished from circulation. Grass, Barth & Comp., the long-established Breslau printing house operating under the W. Friedrich imprint, produced the note locally. Bleyberg's single signature appears without title, which was typical for tramway-issued scrip rather than municipal treasury paper.
