Ilse-Wohlfahrts-Gesellschaft was the welfare subsidiary of Ilse-Bergbau AG, the large lignite mining operation in Niederlausitz. This type of company-issued scrip — Werksgeld or Notgeld tied to a specific industrial welfare fund — was designed to circulate within the company store and canteen system, keeping wages cycling through company-controlled outlets rather than local trade. Starke & Sachse of Grossenhain were a small but prolific regional printer of this class of industrial and municipal emergency money during the early Weimar period.
