The Banco Argentino operated out of Rosario during Argentina's brief provincial banking free-for-all of the early 1870s, before federal legislation began consolidating note-issuing authority. This 20 Pesos Plata Boliviana note denominates in Bolivian silver pesos — a unit still in practical use across the interior trade routes of the Río de la Plata region, particularly in commerce flowing through Rosario toward the Bolivian altiplano. The denomination wasn't nostalgia; it was commercial necessity.

ABNC engraved and printed the series in New York. The Banco Argentino itself was short-lived, and surviving notes from this 1873 issue are genuinely scarce — the bank's collapse left much of its paper unredeemed and subsequently destroyed by creditors or the issuing authority.
