The Organisation of Central American States — ODECA — issued this piece as part of a short-lived series intended to symbolize regional integration among Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. The political ambition behind these coins far outpaced the reality: ODECA never achieved meaningful economic union, and these gold issues saw essentially no circulation.
