Colombia's 1859 gold coinage was struck during one of the most constitutionally volatile decades in the country's history. The Granadine Confederation, established in 1858, had just reorganized the former Nueva Granada into a federalist republic, and the mint at Bogotá was operating under contested national authority that would fracture entirely within two years into the United States of Colombia. The 1859 date places this piece squarely in that unstable interregnum.
KM#130 follows the 1857 decimal reform that pegged Colombian gold to a French metric standard, aligning the 20 Pesos with the French 100-franc piece in fineness if not in face value.
