Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in flowing Ottoman calligraphy with characteristic looped and extended strokes. Below the tughra, the mint name Tripoli West (Tarablus Gharb) and the Hijri date 1223 are inscribed in Arabic script. The coin is struck on a slightly irregular flan typical of hammered billon coinage, with a beaded border encircling the design. The overall composition follows the standard Ottoman provincial mint style of the early 19th century.

Reverse description Four lines of Arabic calligraphic inscription filling the central field, presenting the full imperial Ottoman title of Sultan Mahmud II. The legend reads 'Sultan of the Two Lands and Khagan of the Two Seas, The Sultan, son of the Sultan,' with the regnal year 13 appearing within the text. The inscriptions are arranged in horizontal registers within the field, enclosed by a beaded border consistent with the obverse. The lettering style reflects the formal chancery hand typical of Ottoman provincial coinage of this period.
