Obverse description Two imperial figures standing facing in full length: Emperor Phocas on the left, holding a globus cruciger in his right hand, and Empress Leontia on the right, nimbate and holding a cruciform scepter. Both figures are rendered in the hieratic frontal style characteristic of early Byzantine coinage, with schematic drapery. A horizontal legend runs along the upper field, identifying the imperial pair. The design reflects the dynastic propaganda of Phocas's reign, presenting joint imperial authority.

Reverse description Large denomination mark XX (twenty nummi) rendered in two bold upright characters occupying the central field, with a patriarchal cross above. A horizontal exergual line separates the denomination from the mint signature below, which reads CON followed by the officina letter, identifying the Constantinople mint. The reverse follows the standard Byzantine follis-series format established by Anastasius I, adapted here for the half-follis denomination. The struck surfaces show typical irregular flan characteristics of hammered Byzantine copper coinage.
