Moshe Sharett served as Israel's second prime minister and, before that, as the country's first foreign minister — a career diplomat who negotiated the armistice agreements of 1949 and was notably more cautious than Ben-Gurion on matters of military force. He died in 1965 and had to wait over three decades for this note. The print run of just over twelve million is modest for a denomination that circulated across sixteen years.
The designers Meir Eshel and Naomi Rosner were responsible for the entire fifth series, giving it an unusual coherence in engraving style rarely seen across a multi-denomination issue.
