Obverse description The face is printed in black on a light blue-green guilloche underprint composed of a repeating floral lattice pattern, enclosed within a heavy ornamental black border with scrollwork corner pieces. The denomination numeral '20' appears in each of the four corners within the guilloche field, while the central text in Gothic Fraktur script reads 'Gutschein über Mark 20.– (Zwanzig Mark)', with the issuing firm name 'F. Thörl's Vereinigte Harburger Oelfabriken Aktiengesellschaft' and the place-date 'Harburg, 11. November 1918' below. A red-printed serial number appears in the upper right corner, and a manuscript signature is present in the lower centre field.

Reverse description The reverse is printed on plain cream paper within a simple repeating oval-link black border. The text, set entirely in Gothic Fraktur script, advises that the voucher is redeemable at the local branch of the Hannoversche Bank from 2 January 1919, with a final redemption deadline of 1 February 1919. A large violet overprint reading 'Ungültig' (Invalid) is applied across the upper portion of the field, indicating cancellation of this example.
