Frankenberg an der Eder was a small Hessian district authority, not a banking institution, and its issuance of this note in 1918 reflects the acute small-change crisis that forced hundreds of German municipal and district bodies to print their own emergency currency — Notgeld — as the war economy stripped coins from circulation entirely. Gebrüder Parcus in Munich handled an enormous volume of this municipal work during the period, producing notes for clients across Germany who had no printing infrastructure of their own.
The Müller reference places this within the catalogued Hessian Notgeld series, though survivorship varies considerably across the district issues printed by Parcus that year.
