Beschrijving keerzijde The central motif is a faithful reproduction of the medieval royal seal of King Haakon V of Norway, presented as a circular seal matrix set within an ornate decorative border. The seal itself depicts the Norwegian royal coat of arms — a crowned lion rampant holding an axe, known as Den norske løve (The Norwegian Lion) — enclosed within a shield and surrounded by an elaborate Gothic interlace border with foliate ornament. A medieval Latin legend in Gothic script encircles the seal impression, referencing Haakon V as King of Norway. Below the seal reproduction, the denomination * 20 KR *, the country name NORGE, and the date 1999 are inscribed in three lines across the lower field in a clean modern typeface.

Aanvullende informatie

The 1999 issue falls within a commemorative run marking the millennium, but Norway's 20 krone series under Harald V had already established Akershus Fortress as a recurring subject tied to the 1990s royal coinage program. Akershus had served as a Nazi headquarters during the German occupation from 1940 to 1945, and several Norwegian resistance members were executed within its walls — a weight of association that makes its appearance on circulating coinage a quietly charged choice.
