Obverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Empress Ekaterina II facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque portrait tradition characteristic of early Catherine II coinage. The hair is elaborately dressed and adorned with pearl ornaments, and an imperial mantle with a decorative brooch is visible at the décolletage. A clockwise Cyrillic legend surrounds the effigy, reading Б∙М∙ЕКАТЕРИНА∙II∙ІМП∙IСАМОД∙ВСЕРОС, translating as 'By the Grace of God, Ekaterina II, Empress and Autocrat of All Russia.' The mint mark СПБ (Saint Petersburg Mint) appears in the exergue below the truncation.
