To the left, the national coat of arms within a transparent polymer window in the shape of a stylised bird of paradise, flanked by two facsimile signatures; to the upper right, the denomination numeral '20' in an ornate gold Bird of Paradise device, with a circular optically variable device (OVD) below it. Papua New Guinea adopted polymer for its kina series earlier than most Pacific nations, and Note Printing Australia has been the sole supplier since the late 1990s. The reduced-format 20 Kina was introduced in 2021 as part of a broader move toward smaller, more ergonomic notes across the kina series — a practical response to years of complaints about wallet fit in a currency zone where cash handling is intense and ATM tolerance is tight.
P#50 is recent enough that genuine circulation data is still thin. What's already apparent is that the OVD placement on this format differs from earlier full-size issues in the series.
