| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in green and brown tones, centred on an intaglio portrait of Ivan Franko, the celebrated Ukrainian writer and poet, set against a vignette of the Carpathian mountain landscape. The denomination '20' appears in large numerals at lower left, with the Cyrillic inscription 'ДВАДЦЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ' running vertically at right; the issuer name 'НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ' and 'УКРАЇНА' are printed at the top, flanking the Ukrainian trident coat of arms.
