Opmerkingen

Weissenbach bei Mödling is a small municipality in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of comparable communities it turned to locally printed Notgeld during the currency chaos that followed the dissolution of Austria-Hungary. These village-level emergency notes were authorized under a broadly permissive wartime and post-war framework that gave municipal authorities unusual latitude to issue their own scrip — a situation that would have been unthinkable a decade earlier.

Three signatories authenticate this note: the Bürgermeister Illich, his deputy Hochlogler, and a Gemeinderat member named Klein. That a council representative co-signed alongside the executive officers suggests the issuing municipality was being unusually careful about legal standing.
